Considering we had just a trace of snow during the entire month of January ... and the temperatures have been well above normal for the 31-day period ...yeah, it seems like spring, doesn't it? But today - February 1 - is the official first day of spring for Centennial Conference athletes.
You see ... February 1 is the first day of practice for spring teams in the CC. So today, look for baseball, softball, lacrosse, tennis and golf teams to be outside practicing for the first time (officially) since October.
As a student participating in athletics, is this a good date to start practice?

It is my contention that with the exception of JHU and F&M the rest of men's bb web sites are misleading at best. Reading the articles does little to explain what actually happened during the course of a game. It seems to me there too much discussion of offensive stats and little if any discussion of defense. In order to report accurately it might be a good idea to improve the content by discussing defense since games are won or lost by playing both ends of the floor. Turnovers are critical to the outcome of a basketball game; however the Centennial Conference and member teams (with the noted exceptions) overlook a critcal aspect of the game. Visit any D1 team practice, protecting the ball is fundamental and emphasized each and ever day. Hopefully this is worthy of some discussion throughout the league.
I'm not sure I understand what you mean when you say the Conference overlooks defense. I wholeheartedly agree that a good defense can usually beat a good offense ... but let's face it ... when one looks at a box score ... it doesn't list who you guarded. It lists your points, rebounds, assists, steals, etc. So if quantifying defense is hard, writing about it is even harder, unless you know that someone has shut down the opposition's leading scorer.
Looking at a few random box scores ... I think the Conference SIDs are pretty good about acknowledging good shooting and good defense. Hopkins noted Swarthmore's good defense last night ... F&M tipped its cap to Gettysburg's strong shooting night ... Muhlenberg always recognizes strong performances from both benches.
The Conference Office does not list every statistic on the weekly reports ... but complete stats can be found on the website. Here's one in particular.
